Vodafone rejects EU call for caps on data roaming charges

The chief executive of Vodafone, the world's largest mobile operator, rejected Tuesday a European commissioner's demand that wireless operators cut fees for cross-border text messaging by July or face the possibility of new retail price controls. Arun Sarin, in remarks at the Mobile World Congress here, called the ultimatum by Viviane Reding, the European Union commissioner who oversees the telecommunications industry "inappropriate."
